Good article! In today's economy, we all have to make tough business choices and this could be a short visioned cut to a business' expenses.

Employers should not cut wellness programs out of their budget as a result of the economic situation in the U.S. today. Employers should be asking the question, "which programs work?" rather than "do wellness programs work?" The answer to that question is "well designed, comprehensive wellness programs save money, save lives and pay for themselves. A well designed onsite program can decrease healthcare costs by approximately 18% while web based programs and/or coaching programs alone can increase healthcare costs by approximately 17%. No, this is not the time to cut a wellness program. This is the time to implement a program that targets the health risk factors of the employee population in the effort to get a handle on health care costs - and more importantly, to save lives. The result will be saved dollars that can be used to provide more jobs for more people - and companies will be saved as well as people! A win/win situation for employee, employers, and our country!
